Privacy Policy

WordStep is a word ladder puzzle game for iOS, Android and the web (game.wordstep.app), developed by HumacIT Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled.

1. Data We Collect

Analytics (Firebase Analytics)

We collect anonymous usage data to understand how the app is used and to improve the experience. This includes:

• App opens and session duration
• Game scores and completion events
• Device type, operating system version, and app version

This data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally. Analytics are provided by Google Firebase Analytics.

Web Version: Cookies and Consent

On game.wordstep.app, the same analytics are collected through Google Analytics, which stores cookies in your browser (such as _ga). These cookies hold a random identifier so visits can be counted. It is not linked to your name or any account.

• If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we ask before using analytics cookies. Until you choose Allow, no analytics cookies are set and no identifiable usage data is sent.
• Outside those regions, analytics is on by default.
• You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy settings link on the game page. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage.
• Advertising storage is always turned off. WordStep has no ads.

The web version also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies or track individual visitors.

Crash Reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the app crashes, an anonymous crash report is sent automatically. These reports include device information and the state of the app at the time of the crash. They do not contain personal data.

Local Data

Your game history, statistics, streak data, and optional nickname are stored locally on your device (or in your browser’s local storage on the web version). This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal information.
• We do not require an account or login.
• We do not collect precise location data. Google Analytics may infer an approximate region, such as your country, from your IP address.
• We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties for commercial purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

4. Children's Privacy

WordStep does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The app does not require any personal information to use.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
